...and then puts aftermarket wheels on it? Spotted at C&C Columbia, SC on Saturday. 84 miles of range and Fiat lost $14,000 for each one sold. Also, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

wheels don’t look too bad on it though.

Someone who moved from CA to SC? Someone who wanted a 500e and was willing to pay a premium to have it shipped?
This doesn’t seem so terribly weird to me.

If I recall correctly, they were lease-only in CA and most got shipped to Europe in the end. I guess this one just stopped halfway over there.

A lot of them went to auction, so dealers everywhere (including European dealers who exported them, but also plenty of US dealers) picked them up.
At least when they started going to auction, they were actually a really good choice if you wanted a cheap local runabout EV, especially in warmer climates (no heat pump heating) and don’t need DC fast charging or a useful back seat - air conditioned battery means they don’t suffer horrific range degradation like LEAFs do.

They’ve found their way across the c ountry, really. For people that wanted an EV but didn’t want a car that looked like one it was pretty much your only option for a bit, wasn’t it?
T hat said the 500 is still a good car even without the fiat jokes,

They aren’t lease only, and indeed you can still buy them (though Fiat at some point was offering really good lease terms). They are only sold new in California and Oregon though.

This is the type of stuff I like to see at car shows.
One of my managers at work has a green Altima Hybrid, and I don’t think he realizes how special it is (to me).

I’ve seen some in MN that I assumed were scooped up at auction.
At least when I moved from OR to MN and my sister was looking at electric cars the 500e cars on the west coast were way cheaper than those in the Midwest.

The 12volt battery connection is a regular issue on those cars . There is some irony there because the 12volt is needed s pecifically because the 500 is also an ICE. My 2nd EV (diy conversion) has 144V to 12V dc2dc converter... so no heavy old lead 12V battery. Love our 500e still when the wife let’s me drive it.

Places like Carvana have several of them and they ship.
I’d drive one.

I think you could lease them for less than $100/month in some cases, right?

Super easy explanation. I bought my first motorcycle from a 500e owner. He said he bought it from a California dealership then had it shipped to a nearby dealership.

As others have suggested, it’s shipped, but if we think about it:
84 mile range
~2500 miles between CA and SC
that’s approx. 30 stops assuming you’re able to ideally charge every 84 miles, which you won’t
charging takes 4 hours
which means ideally you’d only have 5 days of charging time on top of the 1.5 days you need to make the drive (according to google)
It’s be hilarious if someone attempted this.

I think one of these would make a great RV pull behind. Not the case here but, it’s what I would do if I had one

Probably shipped from dealer to dealer or dealer to customer.

Yeah, I’m fairly sure being shipped/towed is significantly more likely than the road trip version, though it is amusing to imagine, especially because there are places along that route where charging points are going to be scarce.

There are quite a few available in NJ, one as low as $7500.
Interesting. I assume in the cold weather with a four-year-old battery (46k miles) it will likely get less than 50 miles range.
Still interesting, as it won’t take up much space in the second garage.
